How long do the light pens function?

The first light pens were manufactured 8 years ago and they are still functioning perfectly. We do not have any evidence that the light pens lose their effectiveness or their power, unless they are damaged due to improper handling. The only maintenance required is to change the bulbs and batteries when necessary.
